William E. "Bill" Grabiel, 86, of Columbus, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday,
March 15, 2024. Bill was born on February 26, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ernest A. and
Lorraine C. Grabiel. He graduated from Hamilton Township High School, and attended both
Ohio State University and Franklin University. He was a Volunteer Fireman for Hamilton
Township and later volunteered at Whitehall fire station. Bill worked for 8 years in the Legal
Bureau of the Ohio Department of Highways. He was appointed Bailiff and Court Constable
of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court by his friend and mentor, Judge Henry L.
Holden.
In 1971, Bill joined the staff of Ohio Attorney General William J. Brown, and served under
four subsequent Attorneys General, before retiring in 2003 as Chief Private Investigator. Bill
was a close associate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol for many years. He served on the
Board of Directors at Nazareth Towers, as well as Central Ohio Crime Stoppers. Bill was a
member of the Canal Winchester Lodge 670 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and
the St. Anthony's Guild. He was also a member of Pickerington American Legion Post 283,
and past SAL Commander at Southway Post.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene, former wife Dianne, and daughter
Natalie. He is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Andrian and Becky Parham ( Steve Stanley) and son-in-law, Ron Obernole; grandchildren, Sarah (James) Franklin, Emalie Santana, Terry J. Hoover, April (David) Halves, Jacob Andrian, Jennafer Andrian, Ashlie Layland, Megan (James) Phillips, Kalib Amos, Zachary(Kelly) Amos; sisters, Margaret Blake and Sally Grabiel; many great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives, and close friends, Don Goodman and Bob Welsh. Bill will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at O R WOODYARD COMPANY South High Chapel 1346 S. High Street Columbus, OH 43207. Visitation from 10:00 am until time of the service at 11:00 am. Interment immediately following at St. Joseph's Cemetery 6440 S. High Street Lockbourne, OH 43137. Father Veevin Richard Pitchaisavary conducting service.
